A new report claims that ads from Apple's "Get a Mac" campaign will no longer feature the "Mac guy," actor Justin Long. Despite Apple's efforts to prepare a new batch of commercials, Long -- who starred in Dodgeball and Herbie: Fully Loaded -- is no longer taking part in the commercials, according to Radar Online, which confirmed the fact with a representative for the actor. "Every ad you see Justin in is for that previous time period only," the representative said. "There's no long-term deal with him. Justin's a movie star, not a commercial guy." Apple's other participants -- Phil Morrison and John Hodgman -- are returning to shoot more spots, as reportedly confirmed by Hodgman's representative.
Why is MacNN making it sound like Justin is leaving, but when you click the link, the site MacNN is getting this from is making it sound like Apple is ditching Justin? Spin?
Also, in criticism of that other site, they make it sound like everyone hates the mac guy. This is the very first time I've heard anyone say anything negative about mac guy.
I guess reality is whatever they want me to think.
there are lots of people who don't like the mac guy. PC AND Mac users alike. mostly due to the fact that his character seemed smug. Mac users were not happy with him because it put us into a bad light (lots of people say mac users are smug anyways...)
but thats stuff i've read over the past few months. it will be intresting to see what ads they come up with next. im hoping for a side by side of how mac is better. show OS X in action or something!!
maybe a wintel bogged down from spam while the mac gets the same task done faster, or maybe show off boot camp?
There's a whole Slate article a couple of months old about how Hodgman comes off as funnier and more appealing in the ads than Long does, which only reinforces the stereotype of Mac users that they're self-involved hipsters and that PC users are more relatable.

Hey, I'm a Mac guy, too. I'm just sayin'. This opinion is out there.
Can you say, I find the ads offensive and bombastic (look it up) as well as flagrantly juvenile. No wonder, IT Departments don't take Mac seriously. No flamers please, I do, but 'they' don't. Grow up, Apple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
at the moment, Apple doesn't care about IT departments so who cares if IT departments don't like the ads. They are all a bunch of losers anyway. IT = I'm Thick. I've worked a bunch of places as a contract programmer and as an employee and the IT people usually don't have a clue on anything except their little corner of the building.
aren't smug, it's the overlyzealous ones that often align themselves with fancy german sports coupes that tick me off, and I work in Mac IT. I am SO glad to see this guy go. I didn't really like him in Herbie Fully Loaded (but I love the Herbie films, even if that tramp was the lead in Fully Loaded) and I was rather upset to see him in Apples ads. I hope they pick a mom next time, a woman should play the Mac role. Nurture, not discriminate.
