.Mac problems persist despite Apple efforts
Friday, November 2, 2007 @ 10:55am

Users continue to report ongoing problems with .Mac in spite of Apple attempts to solve them, reports and anecdotes indicate. Although Apple began maintenance of .Mac's Sync system on October 19th, some users are still unable to use it, forcing manual synchronization of data such as contacts, calendars and Dock layouts. Some European customers, meanwhile, continue to cope with extremely slow image upload speeds, often topping at a virtually unusable 78-80kbps. A few .Mac subscribers complained of outright outages on November 1st, though these appear to have been connected to scheduled maintenance.

Those upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard are being advised to download Backup 3.1.2, as this is required for full compatibility with the operating system. It also introduces QuickPicks for backing up Numbers documents and ringtones bought from the iTunes Store. Apple advises that users with iTunes Plus tracks should make sure those files are backed up as well.

    Shoicking! 209398
I can't believe people are having problems with .Mac!

Probably just a bunch of trolls, or people having a hiccup for the very first time and blasting it all over the internet to cause injury and harm to Apple.

I mean, what do people expect from an essentially free service?

Working great here in New England. Maybe it's a regional issue.

I'm sure there will be plenty of highly intelligent, useful comments like the first though.

    it's messed up 209411
I've been using Sync for a couple years, the last week or so if the first time I've ever seen it really messed up. My Mail accounts would get messed up with every sync. I shut off automatic syncing, and I'm waiting for the smoke to clear before I turn it back on.

Of course, it would be nice if it were actually free...

$100/year isn't much but paying for it does mean I'd like a little more support than posting on a discussion board and randomly hoping a .Mac person reads it and doesn't delete it.

And frankly .Mac sync has always had problems, I would actually pay more if it worked properly. But unfortunately I don't have faith that it would.

    .Mac 209417
I've had problems with syncing mail accounts before, and had it turned off. I was hoping that leopard would fix this. It's not bouncing between the computers. Modifying the accounts, but not causing any issues. My calendar syncing issues seem to have gone away (it was bad right after leopard release).

I'd like to think that they are up to something like complete functionality on the web for calendars, but I doubt it. I've been hoping for that one for a long time.

I didn't think Back to my Mac was implemented yet. Yes, it's in Leopard, but not yet turned on in .Mac.
