Thinkflood has announced an app for the iPhone and iPod touch that works with the company's RedEye, remote control system. When used in conjunction with the RedEye hub, the app allows users to control televisions, DVRs, game systems, and other home-entertainment devices with their iPhone or iPod touch. The software communicates with the hub using Wi-Fi and does not require line-of-sight to work. RedEye receives the iPhone’s command and uses infrared signals to control the designated devices.
The RedEye hub is capable of communicating simultaneously with multiple iPhone and iPod touch devices, and doubles as a charger with its built-in dock connector. Users can customize the application screen layouts, or download new features from the App Store as they become available.
The hardware devices are currently being offered to beta customers for an introductory price of $120, until the full release in September when the hub will be priced at $150. The software portion will be available as a free download from the App Store.
