Mac OS X 10.5.8 update nearing completion
Friday, July 3, 2009 @ 10:50am

The next update for Mac OS X Leopard is rapidly advancing towards release, reports suggest. Build 9L22 of v10.5.8 is said to have been delivered to developers on Wednesday, following the distribution of 9L20 last Friday. Such turnaround times are typically a sign of imminent release for Apple software, evidence for which may be backed by a shift in testing focus.

Whereas developers were asked to evaluate imaging-related components with 9L20, 9L22's focus is said to be on inputs and outputs, as well as other base frameworks. Only four fixes and one known problem are claimed to exist in the beta, the latter involving saved e-mails. The brief attention paid to each part of the operating system may also suggest that v10.5.8 will be the last Leopard update before the launch of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, scheduled for September. As with Tiger, Leopard updates may continue past the arrival of a new OS.

Problems addressed in 9L22 include USB audio distortion, FireWire power management and troubles with Bluetooth-enabled printers.

What is there needed to 'get used to'? Maybe 10.5.8 fixes all the problems your having to 'get used to'?

    HDCP bug fix?

    258553

What about fixing the resolution problem introduced by 10.5.7? My mac mini is unable to display 1900x1200 on my external monitor since 10.5.7. The issue is known since early May and Apple has yet to fix this problem but does not appear to be willing to (check this thread on apple support forum: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2004318).
Mac press and web sites are totally silent about this.

    Plus the ATI driver bug

    258582

There's a bug in ATI drivers in 10.5.7. In order to defend against crashes, VMWare Fusion will disable 3D support if you have an ATI card.
