Twitter hires for next-gen TweetDeck on Android, iOS
Saturday, March 17, 2012 @ 6:05pm

Twitter has been actively recruiting for a long-expected revamp of its mobile apps. One listing would get multiple positions for developing a "cutting edge" Android app. The microblogging site wouldn't have had trouble getting help for its iOS app, as leaks emanating from TechCrunch suggest spots for reworking the app had already been filled.

TweetDeck had been bought by Twitter in May of last year with the intention of using it as a professional counterpart to the regular, mainstream Twitter client. While this did lead to native desktop apps, TweetDeck on mobile has stayed mostly idle in favor of the wider-reaching app. The more professional app is intended for those who either deal with heavy reply volumes or who have to regularly track goings-on, such as certain keywords or hashtags. Desktop and tablet users get multiple side-by-side panes where the normal app is focused more on showing content for an individual stream. Most, if not all, of TweetDeck's developers are based in London and are kept relatively independent of the core San Francisco group.
