Apple-related venture UpThere revamps website, hiring
Tuesday, November 13, 2012 @ 10:37pm

Former OS X chief Bertrand Serlet's new venture UpThere has shed a little more light about itself with a website redesign that calls for new hires of engineers and designers. The company says it is looking for "creative and talented engineers, product managers, and college interns with experience in technologies like C/C++, Objective-C, Node.is, and JavaScript." In addition to Serlet, former Apple employees Roger Bodamer and Chris Bourdon are also involved in the startup, which is focused on "building out the future of the cloud."

The site now offers a formal job application that candidates can fill out online. Experience with platforms such as iOS and Android, storage systems, databases, security and UI design along with QA experience are among the qualities that the UpThere team is searching for. Previously, job applicants were asked simply to leave an email address and answer a complex cloud-technology related question. The company says it already has some staff, composed of veterans from companies such as Apple, Google, Oracle, VMware, and Microsoft. Other executives listed as being involved with the company include John Doerr, a Google board member. Broadcom executive Alex Kushner is also listed along with Serlet as one of the founders of the company. Serlet is also a board member at Parallels. In addition, the company have begun tweeting from its Twitter account, again inviting candidates to apply for positions. On its employment page, update website offers "competitive salary and equity" and says the headquarters is located in downtown Palo Alto, CA -- one block from Caltrain, a popular mass transit commuting system in the northern part of the state. Listed benefits include free healthy (and "unhealthy") snacks, coffee and lunch; an "environment that emphasizes discussion and collaboration," and a team that will socialize within and outside of work. The company describes itself as a "strong mentoring environment for engineers." Pressing "apply now" on the website takes you to a Jobscore page that offers ties to LinkedIn to make it easier to submit a resume. A previous job listing from UpThere described the project as "[having] a clear vision of core technology for a Cloud OS." how this will differ from existing cloud services such as Apple's iCloud, Amazon's S3, and commercial services like Dropbox remains to be seen.
