Redbox Instant to launch later this month at $8 per month
Wednesday, December 12, 2012 @ 11:49am

Redbox and Verizon have publicly announced that Redbox Instant will be launching its streaming service later this month. Offering unlimited streaming of thousands of movies, Redbox Instant has also been confirmed to be offered through the web, as well as iOS and Android portable devices, Samsung and LG Blu-Ray players and Smart TVs, and Google TV.

The previously-leaked pricing in the private beta has mostly passed over to the full product, with $8 per month covering unlimited streaming and four Redbox credits to use at kiosks. An extra $1 per month upgrades the DVD credits to Blu-Ray credits, though the previously-offered $6 streaming-only option is not mentioned by the company, and could have been dropped entirely. Game rentals of $2 per night are also not included in the new packages. Redbox Instant is set to roll out later this month, likely the 17th according to reports, with priority being given to those that register their interest first. Initial users will see a relatively reduced catalog of films, namely around 5,000 compared to the 60,000 said to be on Netflix's streaming roster, though according to CRO Shawn Strickland speaking to Time, the movies on offer from the service are ones that "really matter in the marketplace."
