Tim Cook makes second trip to China as Apple CEO
Tuesday, January 8, 2013 @ 9:52am

Apple CEO Tim Cook met earlier today with Miao Wei, the head of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Bloomberg reports. An official ministry website post says that the two talked about developing China's IT industry, global cellular communications, and Apple's business in China. Apple spokeswoman Carolyn Wu has declined to say how long Cook might stay in the country, or who else he might meet.

This week marks Cook's second visit to China in 10 months and also his second after assuming the job of CEO. When he last visited, in March, he promised that Apple would make a "greater investment" in the region. The company has since grown the number of Chinese Apple Stores from six to 11, and continued down a road of gradually improving working conditions at suppliers. Less certain is what sort of financial weight Apple may be throwing around at suppliers or elsewhere.
