Updated 500px app returns to App Store
Tuesday, January 29, 2013 @ 2:18pm

A modified 500px iOS app has returned to the App Store in the wake of a nudity controversy, during which Apple decided to block the software. The update includes a "report this photo" button, and is now age-restricted to people 17 or older due to "Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity."

500px co-founder Oleg Gutsol tells TechCrunch that his firm "worked closely with Apple over the last week to address their requests." He adds though that an internal audit found no pornographic photos, and so 500px is waiting to hear about specific complaints Apple received to track down images that might've been the source of the controversy. As an extra precaution, the updated app makes nude photos clearly tagged, and uses new search term filters. The 500px service hosts images for amateur and professional photographers across a wide spectrum of categories. Pornography violates the service's rules, but artistic nudity is allowed, which could be the origin of the complaints unless some users are sneaking porn through.
