Dropbox snaps up developers of Mailbox iPhone app
Friday, March 15, 2013 @ 2:17pm

Cloud storage service Dropbox has absorbed Orchestra, the developers of the iPhone app Mailbox, according to an official blog post. Neither party has disclosed any details of the arrangement, such as whether a buyout was involved, or if Dropbox simply agreed to hire the Orchestra team. Dropbox says, however, that it's "looking forward to making Mailbox even better and getting it into as many people's hands as possible."

The app first gained attention earlier this year thanks to the attention of some prominent bloggers, and Orchestra's reservation system, which added some cachet by restricting who could use it at first. Like some other apps, Mailbox attempts to improve email on the iPhone through differences like a gesture system, and the ability to "snooze" messages until later. It's not clear what Dropbox's interest in the app is, but the company could be after the name, and/or looking to expand beyond file storage.
