Leap 3D Motion Controller delayed until July 22
Thursday, April 25, 2013 @ 4:35pm

The shipping date for the Leap Motion 3D Motion Controller has been delayed from May 13th until July 22, says the company's CEO. Michael Buckwald revealed the information during a conference call earlier today. "There’s nothing catastrophically wrong," he explained, "we’re very proud of the product … if we’d tried very hard we would have been able to ship the product [on the original date] but we wouldn’t have had the time to do the iteration and testing that we would want to do otherwise."

Specifically Buckwald says that the company is testing the way people interact with the controller's OS, rather than dealing with any technical problems like latency or manufacturing glitches. The 12,000-some units shipped to developers will serve as an early testbed; those developers will get access to the full software suite Leap wants ready before the controller's official debut. Beta testing is slated to start in the first week of June. "This will be the first and only delay...we’re 100 percent confident that there will be a product that we’re proud of and that will delight and amaze our customers," Buckwald says.
