Golden Bridge sees claims against Apple, others dismissed
Friday, April 26, 2013 @ 10:40pm

Apple, Amazon and a host of other technology firms scored a win in a suit brought by patent licensing firm Golden Bridge Technology. The firm sued the two tech giants and a long list of other tech firms (including Lenovo, Dell, Motorola Mobility, Sony Ericsson, Pantech, LG, HTC and HP) over two patents for 3G network communications. In the court's summary judgement, US District Judge Sue Robinson found that "the record evidence remains consistent with the finding of non-infringement," and cancelled a jury trial set to begin on April 29.

The patents involved in the suit related generally to wireless cellular networks and "teach a method for establishing a communication link between a mobile station (such as a cell phone) and a base station." While the other companies were also named in the lawsuit, only claim construction against Apple had moved forward; all other claims were stayed pending the result. The original ruling came in March, with the final decision arriving earlier this month and entering the public record on Friday. Golden Bridge originally sued Apple and an even longer list of defendants in 2010, citing infringement of the two patents in the course of boosting connections over mobile networks. Lawyer Michael P. Kelly, representing Golden Bridge, told Bloomberg that while he respects the judge "greatly," he felt that "justice wasn't done and of course, we will appeal." Apple spokesman Steve Dowling had no initial comment on the matter.
