Websites see new surge in pre-release iOS 7 traffic
Wednesday, May 8, 2013 @ 12:49pm

Web traffic from iOS 7 users has surged in the last week or so, reports say. MacRumors notes that it saw iOS 7 hits on its website start to climb on April 29th. Those numbers fell over the weekend, but have risen even higher since. All of the hits are said to be coming from a block of IP addresses belonging to Apple.

A mobile publishing firm, Onswipe, meanwhile tells TechCrunch that it has witnessed a similar influx of traffic from iOS 7 users in Cupertino and San Francisco. San Francisco accounted for the most iOS 7 hits during the past week -- 18.75 percent -- while Cupertino represented 17.9 percent. May 2nd saw Onswipe's highest percentage of iOS 7 visitors, 23 percent of all the company's iOS traffic for the day. Apple is headquartered in Cupertino, but it and its workers also have a strong presence in San Francisco. A sudden growth in traffic may indicate that iOS 7 has entered into a new phase of testing, requiring (or allowing) Apple staff to take the firmware online more often. The code is set to make a public debut in June at WWDC, and ship alongside a new iPhone, which may arrive in September.
