Apple cracking down on retail workers' iOS 7 beta use
Monday, July 1, 2013 @ 5:02pm

Apple management is cracking down on retail staff's use of the iOS 7 beta, several retail workers claim. Both store managers and HR representatives are said to be contacting workers discovered using the beta. The managers are reportedly worried that some clerks are paying for registered Developer status, but then distributing iOS 7 to peers. Apple HR is using the internal RetailMe app to remind clerks that installing iOS 7 requires a Developer account.

"You may not load iOS beta software onto any other personís iOS device. Employees are not authorized to receive iOS beta software from any third parties, even if those third parties are iOS Developer Program members," a recent message reads. Workers are also told not to show iOS 7 to shoppers, on the assumption that this could confuse people about features in iOS 6. They are, however, encouraged to talk about iOS 7 as an update coming this fall, and point people to the iOS 7 webpage. "We could get fired for showing a customer iOS 7 on our phones because of the Apple Developer NDA agreement," one of the retail sources elaborates. Managers are also said to be telling Genius Bar staff not to service any devices running the iOS 7 beta. The finished version of iOS 7 is only due sometime this fall, most likely in September.
