Apple, Samsung each drop patents from second US lawsuit
Monday, July 1, 2013 @ 12:33pm

Apple and Samsung have dropped several devices from their second US lawsuit, scheduled to go to trial on March 31st next year. In April the two parties were ordered to narrow the case to five patents, 15 claims, and 10 products per side. By May, though, the parties were still listing 22 products each.

Friday court filings reveal that both Apple and Samsung have tossed out several older devices. Apple is no longer including the Galaxy Player 4.0 or 5.0, or the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus or 8.9. Samsung has removed the iPhone 3G, first-generation iPad, and third-gen iPod, as well as the third-gen Apple TV, but not the first. Apple has withdrawn two patents, Graphical user interface using historical lists with field classes and Universal interface for retrieval of information in a computer system. Samsung has eliminated Audio/video device having a volume control function for an external audio reproduction unit by using volume control buttons of a remote controller and volume control method therefor, and Data displaying apparatus and method. Both companies must still pull at least one more patent. The deadline for narrowing the case is February 6th.
