Apple iPhone 5s reviews rolling out, much praise, few criticisms
Wednesday, September 18, 2013 @ 5:38am

The first reviews of the latest Apple iPhone flagship are in and they are overwhelmingly positive. Praise for the new iPhone 5s extends from the way the new Touch ID authentication makes accessing the device easier when locked, through to the speed of the new 64-bit A7 processor, and the way the M7 Motion sensor helps to extend its battery life. Reviewers have also heaped praise on the new iOS 7 operating system, saying that it treads the fine line between creating something new and more powerful, while also remaining familiar enough for long time users.

Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal calls the iPhone 5s “the best smartphone on the market,” while he also says that Touch ID is not a gimmick, but potentially a game changing innovation. David Pogue of The New York Times text was not convinced by the reliability of Touch ID, but felt that Apple’s camera enhancements were welcome. According to Pogue, his comparisons with the superseded iPhone 5 show that the new iPhone 5s produces much better low light photos that are clearer, brighter and deliver better color. Scott Stein of CNET suggested that the 64-bit A7 processor iPhone 5s and iOS 7’s could potentially “transform the future of iOS as a computing platform, and maybe pave the way for future products in 2014.” Anand Lal Shimpi of Anandtech gushed that he is “blown away by the level of innovation” in the iPhone 5s heaping praise on the speed and capabilities of the A7 chip. Darrel Etherington of TechCrunch concludes that the iPhone 5s is the “new smartphone king,” with its much-improved camera and Touch ID finger scanner proving to be winners.
