| New photos, obtained by a French site, are said to reveal a second-generation iPad mini shell in Apple's recent "space gray" color. The part otherwise appears almost identical to the shell used for the first-gen Mini. Until now, only SIM card trays hinted at the possibility of the tablet adopting the new color.
Apple appears to be making space gray a standard option across all of its mobile devices. While the company only called attention to the color when announcing the iPhone 5s, the iPod lineup has made the switch behind the scenes. A new iPad mini is generally expected to be announced next month, and come in two color combinations: black/space gray, and white/silver. A fifth-gen 9.7-inch iPad should arrive at the same time, and potentially in the same combinations as the 5s: black/space gray, white/gold, and white/silver. SIM trays in those shades have leaked.
Many details of the tablets have seemingly been cemented. On top of a slight color change, the Mini is expected to get a Retina display and a faster processor, presumably the A6. The fifth-gen iPad should adopt an A7 or A7X chip, and adopt the design principles of the Mini, with slimmer side bezels and less tapered edges.
