Oyster comes to iPad, drops invite-only restrictions
Wednesday, October 16, 2013 @ 12:56pm

E-book subscription service Oyster has introduced a promised iPad interface for its iOS app. When the service launched last month, its mobile app was initially restricted to the iPhone and iPod touch. The iPad interface not only includes more space for images and text, but a landscape mode unavailable to iPhone/iPod owners. Libraries and activity sync between devices.

The app as a whole has been improved with a new, darker look that also places more space between elements. Recently-added books and more recommendations have nevertheless been added to the Home screen, and each genre has been given its own Recommend for You section. When searching in the app, instant results are now displayed while typing. The most significant change however may be the elimination of the invitation cap, allowing anyone to sign up. New users can try the service free for 30 days. After that, the standard $10 monthly fee kicks in.
