Google adds Google Drive attachments, quick action buttons to Gmail
Tuesday, November 12, 2013 @ 1:24pm

Google has added two more features to Gmail, linking the e-mail service to a number of others. A new option allows attachments on incoming messages to be saved to Google Drive directly, while new "quick action buttons" provide quicker access to other relevant services based on the contents of the e-mail messages themselves.

Incoming attachment previews at the bottom of e-mails can be viewed in full-screen, with users able to browse through multiple pages and also search text files for key words, according to Google. Files can also be sent to Google Drive rather than downloaded and saved to local storage, making the attachment files viewable on multiple devices. The quick action buttons will appear as an extra item to the right of the e-mail list. These buttons can allow for quick viewing of uploaded videos on YouTube and Vimeo, provide ratings and reviews for restaurants, and also quickly open up Dropbox folders, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Google is also providing support for developers to add their own services to the quick action buttons. The Google Drive additions will be rolling out over the next week. Quick action buttons have already started to roll out.
