New Year freebies: Pac-Man, 7 Minute Workout Challenge for iOS
Thursday, January 9, 2014 @ 10:24pm

The Apple Store app, a program for iPhone and iPod touch that keeps users up-to-date on items, orders and sales at retail Apple Stores, is celebrating the new year by offering a fitness app, 7 Minute Workout Challenge, free to users. To get it, one must download and install the free Apple Store app on their mobile device. Apple has also made the classic arcade game Pac-Man its "App of the Week," making it free for the first time ever.

Following last week's offering of Readdle's Scanner Pro, the new "App of the Week" is the Namco-Bandai arcade classic, Pac-Man. The program has varied in price since its first appearance on iOS back in 2011, vacillating between $7 and $1 in various promotions, but has never been made free before. For those who want the app but don't want to install the Apple Store app first, 7 Minute Workout Challenge is also available for $1 from the iTunes App Store. In addition to a touch-optimized replica of the original Pac-Man experience, the app offers eight new mazes (as an in-app purchase) and bonus "ghost-free" modes. The game also features two different control modes, three levels of game difficulty and Retina display support. It will be free for the next week.
