| Other World Computing today at CES 2014 announced that it has broadened its array of OWC Thunderbolt cable offerings with three new optical cable lengths of 10-, 20-, and 30-meters. Longer length options allow for noisy storage appliances to be moved to an equipment closet for a quieter and more productive workspace. Utilizing the latest Thunderbolt chipsets for high-speed 10GB-per-second Thunderbolt and 20GB-per-second Thunderbolt 2 devices, the extended cables can enhance video workflow with support for faster 4K video transfer and 4K display capabilities through DisplayPort 1.2 technology.
The OWC Thunderbolt cable is able to "daisy-chain" up to six Thunderbolt devices, and can be used for Target Disk Mode between two Macs that support Thunderbolt. Now available in six different length choices, the 10-meter Thunderbolt cable is priced at $320, the 20-meter at $620, and the 30-meter costs $900.
NuGuard KX offers protection for iPhone 5c
NewerTech used its time at CES to show off a new case for the iPhone 5c that is made in the US and offers "rugged protection against drops, impacts and scratches" while still showcasing the color of the 5c. The NuGuard KX ($30) uses what the company calls "X-Orbing gel" to absorb and evenly distribute the kinetic energy from shocks in order to minimize damage potential without adding significant bulk. The hard-shell case with a soft gel interior comes in the matching six color options of the iPhone 5c, retains full access to all of the iPhone's ports and buttons and is easily put on or taken off if needed, yet only adds 1.1 ounces to the weight of the device.
