Speedy Mouse

One of the greatest things about getting a multi-button mouse is the software that comes with it. Beyond simple macros and shortcuts, though, I find one of the most convenient features of the third party software is the increased speed that you can have the cursor move at. Users of Apple's mice and the Mouse control panel are bound to notice that even on the fastest setting the cursor lags behind the movement of the mouse, and this especially becomes a drag at higher resolutions.

Speedy Mouse 1.2 is a small (5k) extension that will double the speed of each of the Mouse control panel's settings, allowing for users of Apple's mice to experience the increased speed (or the illusion of increased speed) that comes with having a faster cursor.

In the realm of Mac OS extensions Speedy Mouse 1.2 is ancient -- six years old to be exact. It's survived every OS release (from 6.0.8 to 8.5.1) without so much as a hiccup or an extension conflict. The source code is also included in the free package so a savvy programmer could theoretically release a souped up Speedy Mouse if they wanted to.   -MS
