The iCatch from Macsense is a nifty, plastic gadget which turns the unnaturally ergonomic round iMac and Blue-and-White G3 USB mouse into a nearly normal one-button mouse. Some iMac users might believe that they've mastered and gotten used to the small circular mouse, as I had, but you've probably just come to ignore the unnatural position it can put your hand in. The iCatch comes with no instructions at all, but installation is a no-brainer -- just snap it over the mouse. It's even easy to remove, if you ever want to. The adapter is bondi blue (not ice, as some pictures seem to show) with an engraved "iCatch" logo in the middle (the C looks like a cat :-) and a small multicolored Macsense logo near the front end.
What kind of mouse do you get with the adapter? It's medium-weight and quite large -- bigger in length, width, and height than the original ADB Mouse II. The end away from the mouse button narrows to a slightly squared-off end. Texture on the adapter is similar to that of the mouse itself. Of course, the mouse still performs fantastically in regards to sensitivity and traction; there's even an anti-friction strip on the adapter which is perfectly aligned with the two on the mouse.
The only drawback is the shape of the mouse around the button. The iCatch is about an eighth of an inch (3mm) thick, so the mouse button is effectively recessed by that distance. It's a bit of an annoyance if you're clicking a lot, but overall the adapted mouse is much better ergonomically than the round mouse.
If you have no plans to upgrade to a third-party mouse, the iCatch is a must-have. It's only around $10, so add it to your order the next time you buy iMac-ware or blue-and-white-G3-ware. -BH
