NetCD is a nifty utility that mimics Apple's CD Audio Player with one difference: it will fill in all the album and track names automatically (or on your command). It does this by connecting to the CDDB internet database that contains a listing of albums and their track names, matching the CD you inserted with the appropriate information, then downloading it. The whole process takes under ten seconds with a 33.6k modem. It also uses the same format for remembering names of audio CDs as Apple's CD Audio Player, which means that if you eject a disk and stick it in at a later time it will still know the names.
Why would you want this if you have the CD case right in front of you? For one thing, you'll no longer need to glance down to find out what number the track that you'd like to listen to is; plus you'll be able to have all the information you'll need right on your monitor. NetCD is a must have for anyone who uses their Mac to listen to audio CDs, and the best part is that it's free. -MS
