Pros: fastest way to tidy your windows
Cons: slow, window positions aren't remembered if moved, doesn't work on-the-fly
Neatnik is a must-have utility for anyone whose constantly rearranging their windows and icons to keep everything in order. Among its features, Neatnik allows you to set all your windows so that each appears a specified number of pixels to the left and down from its parent, creating a cascading like appearance (similar to the way Anarchie handles windows). The downside to this is that Neatnik uses AppleEvents to perform this task, meaning that if you move a window it won't go back to the way it was the next time you open it. As well, if you open up two folders located in the same place, then the two windows will pixel-for-pixel cover the one or the other. Neatnik also allows you to set the appearance preferences of each window by adopting the view of its parent.
Because of its shortcomings, Neatnik will really only appeal to those who are very conscience of their Mac's appearance or individuals who burn CDs and wish to give folder windows a more "professional" look. Otherwise, at $10, Neatnik is overpriced; although if it were an extension that would neaten up your windows on the fly, it would be much better. -MS
