NOVA is a stand-alone screen saver from Chaotic Software with a reasonable price tag and features that rival its commercial counterparts. The general philosophy behind NOVA was to create a screen saver that wouldn't conflict with anything (as After Dark was prone to doing). As such, NOVA is an application that can be launched and quit, yet automatically kicks in when running in the background. While you won't see any Flying Toasters with NOVA, it comes with 22 Saverlets (modules) that do the job, with more available on their web site; or you can easily design your own. NOVA features the usual sleep corners and timer launch, as well as an optional password prompt when it wakes up, allowing it to double as a security application while you're away from your computer. -MS
