Have you ever had multiple windows overflowing on your screen and needed to get to a file on your desktop that was covered by one of those windows? Desktopper, from Recurring Dreams Software, is designed see desktop icons through windows whenever you need to.
Desktopper brings those icons on your desktop to the foreground when you need them by having them overlap the windows that are covering them. It also surrounds them with a "frame" of color so that it's easier to find the icons, no matter what window or application you're viewing them on top of.
The preferences can be set to display all file types on the desktop, or just the ones you want to see using Desktopper. You can also specify the color and size of the frame around the icons. The default for activating Desktopper is the combination Control - D keys, or dragging your mouse to one of the bottom two corners, but this too can be customized. You can even set Desktopper to automatically launch in the background after startup.
Desktopper is a well conceived application designed for anyone who's ever had to move windows around or use WindowShade just to get at their desktop. It's one of those utilities that leaves you wondering why Apple hadn't thought of it yet. -JE
