Products of the Day
January 1999

January marked a big milestone for both The Review and MacNN. We moved from our Mac servers to PC servers running Linux and Apache. The change was mostly prompted by a change in our ISPs (speed started becoming an issue). The new Apache server, beyond being super speedy and stable, also fully supported SSI (Server Side Includes). This allowed us to only have ot update one file to keep the "recent" side bar updated for all of the new Products of the Day. This might sound silly to any adept webmaster, but we previously had to update the "Recent" side bar in every Product of the Day then upload all of them again! Of course, what better way to celebrate than with a whopping twelve Products of the Day! Sure, that's only a little of half as many as we should have had, but it was big news for us. Oh, and let me not forget that January was the first month we started providing a download mirror for the featured Product of the Day courtesy of one of our other speedy servers. There were plenty of great products this month, although Days To Go and Speedy Mouse stand out particularly in my mind.
