Quickly & easily check HTML
When programmers compile a program they have written, they are usually confronted with dozens of errors which were caught by the compiler and prevented the program from running. But when someone saves a web page, there is no screening process to prevent errors from slipping through. What's more, errors can be very difficult to find based on the output you get in your web browser, forcing you to waste your time looking through your page just to make it work. With PageInspector, the time you spend looking for errors can be drastically reduced because it looks through your web pages and identifies the syntax errors.
Page Inspector is a simple but
useful program. After the user selects the file to be scanned, it scans through the HTML and within seconds gives you a report of how many errors it contains and what they are. From there you can select individual errors from a list and choose to fix the error the way Page Inspector recommends, delete the error completely, or edit it by hand.
A useful feature that used to require a separate program is automatic link checking. This allows you to confirm that none of the files you've linked to have disappeared, as web sites tend to do often. The only gripe I have is that Page Inspector will not check an entire directory at once. It would be nice to correct every instance of an error across an entire site, a feature that would be extremely useful to webmasters who run large sites with many similar pages.
Despite its imperfections, Page Inspector is a must-have tool for any webmaster who wants to clean up their site. You never know what errors you could have that may not show up in Communicator or Internet Explorer, but show up in other browsers that you don't use to check your site.
Extremely useful
Only scans one file at a time Many features are built into HTML editors
